At Santa Lucia School, rigor doesn’t come from stress or standardized tests — it comes from students diving deep into meaningful work that matters to them and the world. Whether they’re testing creek water on our five-acre campus or designing solutions to real-life environmental issues, our students are learning with their whole selves — head, heart, and hands. This is holistic education in action, and it’s exactly what prepares them for high school and beyond.
Nature teaches us patience, presence, and connection. It awakens curiosity and calms the nervous system. It offers both questions and answers. And at Santa Lucia School, it is central to everything we do.
Academic success isn’t just about memorizing facts—it’s about building confidence, curiosity, and the ability to think critically and solve problems. That’s what students at Santa Lucia do every day. By weaving together meaningful projects, service, and direct skill-building in thoughtful, developmentally appropriate ways, we ensure that our students are not only learning well—they're loving to learn. And that, we believe, is the foundation for a lifetime of success.
At Santa Lucia School, we believe that education should nurture the whole child—mind, body, heart, and spirit. Holistic education honors each child’s natural curiosity, builds deep connections to nature and community, and creates the safety children need to truly thrive. When students feel seen and supported, they become lifelong learners—not because they are told to, but because they are inspired to. This approach doesn’t just prepare children for school—it prepares them for a meaningful, balanced, and joyful life.
Once starting with a big mission and just a few students in a converted garage, over the past 40 years Santa Lucia School has established itself as a flourishing learning community of 50 students, situated on 5 acres with access to a swimmable creek.
